I think the thing I wish I had done my first year was build more community at the very start. We had several field experience courses, and then the option to do student teaching or an internship (if we could get hired) - luckily I was hired! I will say that one thing I wish that I would have done during my first year was involve parents more - it was hard enough for me to keep my head above water just teaching content - and I also wish that I would have planned things further in advance. I ended up with some great ideas, but many didn't come to light due to time constraints.
